WEEK: 21
AREA: São Filipe, Fogo COMPANION: Sister Monteiro Hey friends! Greetings from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! Sometimes I look on Google maps just to remember how crazy it is that I'm HERE IN AFRICA... kinda This week actually flew by which is a FIRST since I've been here We went to the volcano for pday last week. WE WERE SOO HIGHHH! I felt like I was on an island in the sky. CRAZY There's some weird holiday here this week soo everyone is out partying. Fireworks from 6 am to infinity 5ever (I don't think they'll ever stop) and hacking at carcuses of dead animals. Kinda odd... but the music is good! I got a lot of compliments on my portuguese this week but I think they were just out of pity loll but I'm starting to understand creole a little bit better :) We found Antoinetta this week! Her son Sandro is an RM and he's AWESOME. Me and Sister Dana wanted him to marry one of the ladies in the congresso ward lol but then we found out he's got a gf :( Thursday I THOUGHT this dude asked me if my watch was from America, so I said yes.... turns out he asked if he could marry me and I would take him back to America! Kinda wild lol but I think he was just joking We had a lot of choir rehearsals that never started on time haha, but they were all super super fun! THOM GOT BAPTISED SATURDAY!!!! I got to watch over zoom and it was AMAZING! The spirit was soo strong and you could tell how happy he was !!! Stake Conference was suuuuperrrr long. We had like 5 speakers each day, BUT we had a bunch of people come to church this week so it was ALL GOOD We were late to sing in the choir so that was pretty funny. We wore these creepy outfits and one of the girls in the ward "pentea" our hair hahaha apparently this is how you get the guys here. Alsooooo I officially have 5 MONTHS in the mission! We celebrated with ice cream on Saturday, lunch with the stake president Sunday at a restaurant with a beautiful view, and ice cream again! Haha it was awesome!!! Love you all HEAPS AND BEANS!!! You all better have an awesome day and an even awesomer week! And remember: *it's never too late to SMILE *idk if that's actually a phrase but it is now :))

Pig snout that Brinley was served at a restaurant. Her companion's bowl had bones and teeth in it! WEEK: 20 AREA: São Filipe, Fogo COMPANIONS: Sisters Nascimento and Monteiro Oooolllaaaaaaaa!!! I hope everyone is doing good at this fine time of day. It's a lot later here but I'm doing good at the time of day that it is here. This week wassss LOOOONGGGGGG. Like the longest of my whole mission yet haha. Idk why, but I'm honestly a little glad it's over. Last p-day we went to the beach and it was BEAUTIFUL!! We also ate a a restaurant with theee bestttt viewwwww. We had district council on zoom so I didn't understand much. But we all talked about an attribute we wanted to work on, I chose faith, and then everyone else gave us suggestions about what to do. It was really cool! I washed some more clothes which was pretty fun! I'm not the best at it, and I'm American, so everyone laughs at me. I also saw a woman fighting a drunk dude with a broom in the street so that was actually pretty normal for here haha. I've been practicing piano because I have to play for stake conference in a week! I'm VERY nervous. Hopefully it all goes well. It's kinda funny because they gave me a list of songs to practice, but we're only singing like 3 of the ones on the list. We talked to a lot of less actives and taught a few lessons. Jaira is still on date to be baptized on Saturday soo that's pretty exciting! We're getting new American sisters this week so Sister Nascimento left to Praia :( this is my first time in a duo, but so far it's awesome!! One of the Congresso sister's friends made us cachupa for lunch on Saturday. When they brought mine out I thought the meet looked a little like a pig nose.... turns out IT WAS! I handed it right over to sister Cardoso and she ate the whole thing. Lets just say it was not something I enjoyed viewing, and I wasn't very hungry after that. That's basically all for this week chicas. We had 4 hours of church yesterday and I actually liked it haha! I didn't understand much, but it's a nice break. And we ate lots of desert at a members house in Congresso and it was SOO GOOD° Love you all!! Hope you all have an awesome day and an even awesomer week!!!! And remember: There's no better moment to seize than RIGHT NOW !!! WEEK: 19
AREA: São Filipe, Fogo COMPANIONS: Sisters Nascimento and Monteiro YOOOOO !!! MODI KI BO STA?!! I hope the answer is dretu. It's always dretu lol Anywayyyy this week was AWESOMEEE! I'm kinda liking the all the attention in getting as a branquina lol. This one dude pulled over just to say "I love you!" and this other dude said I have beautiful eyes. I'm pretty sure people here only learn the English words they need to flirt HAH We got cotton candy and it's SOO HUMID here it started doing that melty thing before I could even eat it!! Wild lol. We're teaching a lot of people but id say the most progressing are Ia, Jaira, and Źe Carlos. I don't understand much of what they say but they're pretty cool. Jaira and Zé have baptismal dates for this month so that's pretty dope. Portuguese is still REALLY HARD, and kriolu is harderrrr. But... good speed, GOD SPEED! It's not like I can live here for 14 months and not learn anything lol.... right??? This lady we had a family night with asked if I've ever had feijão before. I said no. FEIJÃO IS BEANS bahaha it was pretty funny. I'm supposed to play piano at stake conference in a week but our piano doesn't work so... idk what in gonna so about that lol There's 1000 spiders in my bathroom but we just cohabitate in peace because I'm not trying to kill them. It's a good time. We're gonna try and find some whey protein around here, please pray we find it haha. One of my comps like to work out and the other doesn't at all soo we're trying to convince her! Sunday night there was a bar fight and I thought it was a party so I started walking towards it and my comp grabbed me and we started running hahaha they were throwing beer bottles and rocks and it was very wild and LOUD That's basically all I have for you guys this semana! Hope all is well and nothing is not well and that everything is dretu also! Love you all soo much! Feel free to send me an email with some recipes that require almost nothing because that's what we have to cook with here haha! Até mais! Have an awesome day, and an even awesomer weeeeekkkk!!!! WEEK: 18
AREA: São Filipe, Fogo COMPANIONS: Sisters Nascimento and Monteiro OIIIII ANOTHA WEEK ANOTHA ESCUDO!!! **$9000 escudos = $90.00 I hope you guys are all well. Mmm still not over the fact that I live in Africa but it's AWESOME.... mostly. Tuesday was o dia das crianças (kids day) and all the kids had no school and they got tons of presents and stuff. Right now it's just a holiday in Cabo Verde, but I will convert America when I'm back. All the roads are cobblestone and everyone lives in concrete boxes. It's honestly so humbling. Fogo has TONS of hills. They are suuuuper steep so it's like a workout all the time. The missionary houses are some of the nicest around BY FAR. They don't eat dinner here! They're all about the 2 hour lunch and then snacks at like 10:00 at night. Yep, CRAZY. I am reallllyyyyy not on board. I don't know Kriolu so I mostly just smile and nod. We have two wards so we have A TON of work and we're teaching A TON of people. (I will give more details when I actually know what's up). We also had to go to 4 HOURS of church on Sunday. We finally moved into our house on Wednesday. We were supposed to move Monday, but the stores were closed so we couldn't get mattresses. It's VERY green but has a SUPER good view. It's so nice to unpack and actually have a place to call "home." The roosters wake me up EVERY SINGLE MORNING at 5 a.m. and I can't ever to back to sleep. They're everywhere and it gets LIGHT soo early too. So every morning at like 5 when I wake up I put my earbuds in to help the noise. This one drunk dude said I was so beautiful I needed body guards hahaha. But mostly they all just call me branquinha (whity). The first question I always get asked is "Americana?" I guess that's what happens when you're the only white person in the biggest city in Fogo. Also I'm the only person on Fogo and Brava that can play piano sooo I'm playing for stake conference in 2 weeks.... Last night we ate dinner with the bishop and his wife asked me if I liked sharks. Turns out that's what we were eating!!!! It was very odd to say the least. Hope you all have an awesome day and an even awesomer week 🤠🥰 AND REMEMBER: "You once dreamed of being where you are today." Amo vocês WEEK: 17 AREA: São Filipe, Fogo COMPANIONS: Sisters Nascimento and Monteiro OLÁ TUDO BEM?!!! WOW this week was eventful! Monday morning I moved up to Riverview with Sisters Steele and Hulse. They were super fun!! We ran every morning and had a ton of fun. I had to get the spooky Covid test where it goes STRAIGHT UP both nostrils. It was awfulllllll. The workers were soo unprofessional and I did NOT want them swabbing me. Thursday we woke up and headed straight to the airport. Me and Elder Tilley chilled for like 2 hours and then we bailed. The flight wasn't too bad and then we met up with a bunch of missionaries in Boston. They were all super chill. The security was suuuppperrrrr strict and they were PATTING THE ELDERS DOWN in all sorts of places. It was very funny but also I felt bad. We flew all though the night and stopped on these random islands in Portugal to fuel up. My internal clock is WACKED. We ate at the mission home and then did some work. We ate at a members house after a baptism and it was not good haha. One of the deserts tasted like car sickness. Then I hopped on another plane to FOGO. It's soo beautiful. My stuff weighed way too much but some old dude put it under his name which was such a tender mercy. Right now we don't have clean water but I'm moving again tomorrow so hopefully there's some there. Everyone laughs at me because I can't speak the language.... especially my comps. They kinda just talk to each other because they can. We went and had family night and played some games with a family. Their kids were soo cute. We do a lot of walking on cobblestone streets and there's like no laws. Me and Sister Dana are the only two white girls on the ENTIRE ISLAND. I get tons of stares and cat calls. We didn't do anything for p-day today except buy groceries which was crazy in and of itself. We have to bleach basically everything we buy. Even the eggs! Love you alllll Have and awesome day and an even awesomer week! This is the temple being built in Praia. It is supposed to be done in October.
